 Action :

It has a broad spectrum of activity against trematodes (flukes) and cestodes (tapeworms). It has two major effects on susceptible helminths: it causes spastic paralysis of worms, & at higher doses it causes tegumental damage in the worms, which activates host defense mechanism; this results in destruction of the worms.

  

 Indication :

Intestinal tapeworm infestation. Neurocysticercosis and dermal cysticercosis, schistosomiasis.

  

 Contraindication :

Hypersensitivity, ocular cysticercosis.

  

 Adverse-Effects :

Nausea, abdominal pain, headache, malaise and dizziness.

  

 Special Precaution :

For drug therapy of Neurocysticercosis hospital based treatment is required.

  

 Interactions :

Hydantoins

8 - 12 hours.
