Mustine   -   Alkylating  Antineoplastic

  

 Action :

Action on the reproductive cell cycle is not highly phase-specific. However, effect is more prominent on proliferating cells in S-phase. Cytotoxic action is partly due to damage to DNA. Mustine also has weak immunosuppressant property.

  

 Indication :

Malignancies of the lung, certain types of chronic leukaemia, palliation of Hodgkin's disease. Neuroblastoma, mycosis fungoides.

  

 Pharmaco-Kinetics :

It is administered by parenteral route (I.V.)

  

 Contraindication :

Severe leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, anaemia, drug is not to be repeated before 6 weeks. Coexisting or suspected granuloma.

  

 Adverse-Effects :

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, leucopenia bone marrow depression, skin rash, alopecia, transient anorexia, amenorrhoea, sterility, oral ulcers. Local reaction & phlebitis.

  

 Special Precaution :

Extravasation into subcutaneous tissues, monitor renal, hepatic and bone marrow functions. Concomitant therapy with x-ray or other chemotherapy. Immunosuppressive activity may predispose to infection.

    

 Dosage :

Adults : Normally 0.1mg / kg body weight daily for 3-4 days. No single dose should exceed 8mg regardless of body weight, infused with 500ml of normal saline. 
Not for I.M. use.

  

 Onset of action :

Within few mins.

  

 Strength & Packing :
