 Action :

Thyroid hormones act on the receptors and stimulate entry of calcium and amino acid into cells and stimulate adenylate cyclase in cell membranes.

  

 Indication :

Hypothyroidism, Cretinism, Nontoxic goitre, myxoe-dema, coma.

  

 Pharmaco-Kinetics :

After oral administration absorbed well and metabolised in liver.

  

 Contraindication :

Cardiac disease. Thyrotoxicosis.

  

 Adverse-Effects :

Palpitation, osteoporosis, angina, tremors, thyrotoxicosis, allergic reaction, headache, tachycardia, diarrhoea, restlessness, sweating, loss of weight and muscle weakness.

  

 Special Precaution :

Coronary heart disease, ECG changes of myocardial infarction. In patients with adrenal insufficiency, first corticosteroid therapy should be given followed by thyroxine

  

 Dosage :

Adults

:

Initially 50 - 100 mcg increased by 25 - 50 mcg at 3-4 weeks intervals to maintain maximum  150 - 300 mcg daily.

Children

:

Initially 25 - 150 mcg with 25mcg increments every 2-4 weeks. Juvenile myxoedema starting dose of children over 1 year may be 2.5 to 5mcg / kg. per day.

  

 Strength & Packing :

0.025mg,   0.050mg,    0.075mg,    0.088mg,    0.100mg,
0.125mg,   0.150 mg,   0.175mg,    0.200mg,    0.300 mg

in a packing of  30 tablets  and  100 tablets  per box.
