Bacteriostatic against M.tuberculosis. Also active against atypical mycobacteria such as M.kansasii, and some strains of M.avium complex, and M.leprae.
Tuberculosis when other drugs are ineffective or contraindicated. In regimens of leprosy.
After oral administration it is well absorbed from GI tract and widely distributed throughout body tissue and CSF. It crosses the placenta and is metabolised. Less than 1% of the drug is excreted in urine.
Hepatic impairment and hypersensitivity.
Nausea, vomiting, anorexia, hepatotxicity, drowsiness, depression, peripheral neuritis, headache, skin rash, menorrhagia, acne, alopecia, hypertension, convulsion, diplopia.
To assess liver function periodically.
No known interactions.
30 - 60 mins.
12-16 hours.
