Increases heart rate and force of contraction. At low infusion rates vasodilatation occurs in the renal mesenteric, coronary and cerebral beds. At higher rates vasoconstriction in skeletal muscles and a rise in BP. Vasoconstriction also in renal and mesenteric areas.
Shock syndrome due to MI, trauma, septicaemia heart surgery, renal failure, chronic cardiac failure.
It is given by I.V. infusion because it has a short plasma half life.
Atrial or ventricular tachyarrhythmias hyperthyroidism, phaeochromocytoma.
Nausea, vomiting, atopic beats, anginal pain, tachycardia, palpition, widened QRS.
Occlusive vascular disease, hypovolaemia.
Adults : 2mcg - 50mcg / kg body-weight / min. as I.V. infusion.
Half-life 2 mins.
