It is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor with positive inotropic and vasodilatory properties. It is used IV for the short term management of heart failure unresponsive to other forms of therapy.
Short term management of CCF in patients unresponsive to digitalis, diuretics or vasodilators.
After I.V. administration it acts quickly, after oral administration the peak effect is noticed in 1-3 hours.
Hypersensitivity, children, acute phase of myocardial infarction.
Nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, thrombocytopenia (reversible), fever and hepatotoxicity.
Idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, severe aortic or pulmonic valvular disease, hypotension.
Peak effect occurs within 10 mins.
1/2 - 2 hours.
20ml Injection.
