Effective against most Gram-postive organisms. Bacteriostatic or bactericidal depending on sensitivity and concentration. Susceptible organisms Bacteriostatic bactericidal depending on sensitivity and concentration. Susceptible organisms include Staph. Aureus. Staph albus, beta-haemolytic Streptococcus, Strep. viridans, Diplococcus pneumoniae, Clostridum tetani, C. perfringens, Corynebacterium diphtheriae and C. acnes. Not active against Strep. faecalis, Neisseriae, Haemophilus or other Gram-negative pathogens.
URI, LRTI, skin infections, septicaemia caused by Staph aureus & streptococcus, bone & joint infection including acute haematogenous osteomyelitis.
Hypersensitivity.
Same as clindamycin.
During prolonged therapy perform liver and kidney function tests, blood counts.
Neuromuscular blocking agents : Use with cautions since actions of these agents are enhanced.
Adults : Oral : 500mg 3-4 times daily.
Half-life is about 8 hours.
