Ifosfamide  -  Nitrogen Mustard Antineoplastic

  
Manufacturers of Ifosfamide injection, an nitrogen mustard anti-neoplastic drug, used in treatment of germ cell tumors, lung and breast cancer

  

 Action :

This durg has been shown to require metabolic activation by microsmal liver enzymes to produce biologically active metabolites. The alkylated metabolites have been shown to interact with DNA & exert their cytotoxic effect. It is routinely given with mesna to reduce urothelial toxicity.

  

 Indication :

Germ cell tumors, lymphomas, sarcomas, cervical ovarian, lung and breast cancer.

  

 Pharmaco-Kinetics :

  

  

 Contraindication :

Thrombocytopenia, severe leucopenia, severe renal or hepatic impairment, hypersensitivity, bone-marrow depression.

  

 Adverse-Effects :

Haemorrhagic cystitis, nausea, anorexia, hallucination, somnolence, confusion, leucopenia, immunosuppresession, delayed wound healing.

  

 Special Precaution :

Hepatic or renal impairment, haematological impairment (monitor). Ensure adequate hydration. Recent post operative (10-14 days). Carcinogenic potential.

IV  Infusion :

Infused IV over atleast 30min at a dose of 1.2g/sq.m/day x 5 days, treatment cycles repeated every 3-4 weeks, monitoring hematological picture periodically.

Mean terminal elimination half-life 15 hours

  

 Strength & Packing :

1gm  Injection  (single vial per box).
1gm  Kit  ( 1 vial  Ifosfamide + 3 amps. 200mg/2ml  Mesna).
