Flutamide   -   Nonsteriodal  Antiandrogen

  
Manufacturers of Flutamide tablets, an nonsteriodal antiandrogen, used in the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer

  

 Action :

Flutamide is a nonsteroidal 'pure' antiandrogen since it has no other hormonal activity. It acts directly on the target tissues either by blocking androgen uptake or by inhibiting cytoplasmic and nuclear binding of androgen. In animal studies flutamide reduced prostate and seminal vesicle weights and prevented androgen-stimulated hypertrophy of accessory sex tissues.

  

 Indication :

Metastatic prostate cancer.

  

 Contraindication :

Severe chronic depression, history of thromboembolic disorders.

  

 Adverse-Effects :

Nausea, epigastric distress, vomiting diarrhoea, gynaecomastia, galactorrhoea, hepatits, breast tenderness, insomnia.

  

 Special Precaution :

Liver function tests to be done periodically. Water retention may occur in cardiac disease. Long term administration.

  

 Dosage :

Adults : 250mg thrice daily.

  

 Duration of action :

Plasma half-life 6 hours.  

    

 Strength & Packing :

250mg tablet,  10 tablets per box.
