Dactinomycin   -   Antineoplastic

  
Manufacturers  of  Dactinomycin injection, an anti-cancer drug, used in the treatment of cancer

  

 Contraindication :

Injection with chicken pox or herpes zoster; lactation; hypersensitivity.

  

 Adverse-Effects :

Cheilitis, dysphagia, esophagitis, ulcerative stomatitis, pharyngitis, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, GIT ulceration, liver toxicity including ascites, hepatomegaly, hepatitis, liver function test abnormalities, anaemia, agranulocytosis, leukopenia, thrombopenia, pancytopenia, reticulopenia, alopecia, skin eruptions, acne, flare-up of erythema or increased pigmentation of previously irradiated skin.

  

 Special Precaution :

Handle the drug cautiously while administering. Gastrointestinal toxicity and marrow suppression has been reported when given with X-ray therapy. exercise caution when administering within two months of irradiation for the treatment of right sided wilms' tumor. Discontinue the administration of drug if stomatitis, diarrhoea or severe hemopoietic depression results, until patient recovers.

  

 Interactions :

Dactinomycin may interfere with bioassay procedures for the determination of antibacterial drug levels.

  

 Dosage :

Adult

:

0.5mg daily I.V. for  maximum 5 days.

Children

:

15mcg / kg of body weight I.V. for 5 days.

In both adults & children

:

2nd course may be given after atleast 3 weeks have elapsed, provided all signs of toxicity have disappeared.

    

 Strength & Packing :

0.5mg  Injection, per vial.
