Busulphan is an alkylating agent. It depresses bone marrow function, reduces total granulocyte mass and improves the clinical state.
Chronic myelogenous leukaemia, polycythaemia vera, essential thrombocythaemia, myelofibrosis.
After oral administration it is well absorbed. Almost all the drug is excreted via urine as Methanesulfonic acid.
Hypersensitivity.
Nausea, vomiting, pulmonary fibrosis, alopecia, generalized skin pigmentation, azoospermia, cataract, gynaecomastia, ovarian failure, leukaemia, hyperuricaemia.
Drug may be leukaemogenic and carcinogenic. Patient should be hospitalised during induction therapy. Haematological monitoring, hyperuricaemia.
Dose and duration dependent on condition. For remission 4 - 8mg / day. 1 - 3mg / day as maintenance dose.
Decrease in leukocyte count occurs after 10-15 days.
Decrease in leukocyte count may continue for 1 month after withdrawal of the drug.
2mg tablet, 100 tablets per bottle.
