 Action :

It is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor with positive inotropic and vasodilatory properties. It is used IV for the short term management of heart failure unresponsive to other forms of therapy.

  

 Indication :

Short term management of CCF in patients unresponsive to digitalis, diuretics or vasodilators.

  

 Pharmaco-Kinetics :

After I.V. administration it acts quickly, after oral administration the peak effect is noticed in 1-3 hours.

  

 Contraindication :

Hypersensitivity, children, acute phase of myocardial infarction.

  

 Adverse-Effects :

Nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, thrombocytopenia (reversible), fever and hepatotoxicity.

  

 Special Precaution :

Idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, severe aortic or pulmonic valvular disease, hypotension.

  

 Dosage :

Adults

:

Administered by I.V. bolus followed by infusion. 
Initiate therapy with 0.75mg / kg / min. If required administer additional bolus of 0.75mg / kg after 30mins. 

Total daily dose including boluses not to exceed : 10mg / kg. Adjust rate of administration and duration of therapy based on response. 

Therapy for indoor patients under close supervision only.

Children

:

Not recommended.

  

 Onset of action :

Peak effect occurs within 10 mins.

  

 Duration of action :

1/2 - 2 hours.

  

 Strength & Packing :

20ml  Injection.
